On 8 September 2016, the ICDL team in Thailand took part in the launch event for Phuket Smart City. As part of the Royal Thai Government’s vision for a vibrant Digital Economy, Phuket will be developed into a Smart City to upgrade entrepreneurs, SMEs and start-ups in Phuket. Organised by Software Industry Promotion Agency (SIPA), Phuket Smart City is part of a national project titled “Digital Thailand”.
The aim of Phuket Smart City is to develop Phuket by using digital technology in all aspects including tourism, city development and the economy. On 9 September 2016, SIPA signed an MOU with 15 partners, including ICDL, that are involved in building Digital Thailand. ICDL is committed to building Phuket Smart City and future plans include an ICDL Test Centre to be set up at the Phuket Smart City Innovation Park.
